천혜의 아름다움을 간직한 청평호에 새로운 건축물을 탄생시키는 일은 건축가에게 큰 선물이자 도전이다. 자연의 수많은 지형 중 지면이 수면을 만나는 장소는 매우 특별하다.
지면은 숲과 이를 지탱하는 단단한 토지로 형성된 수직적인 경사면이고, 수면은 부드럽고 연속적인 흐름을 간직한 유기적인 수평면이다.
나는 이러한 환경 속에서 지면의 강직함과 수면의 유기적인 에너지를 결합하고자 하였다.
마치 청평호수의 부유하는 힘을 전달 받는 듯 건축물은 여러 수평선으로 형성된 계단을 시작으로 곡선을 그리며 상부에 수직선으로 완성된다. 청평 마리나는 이렇게 간단한 gesture로 탄생한 선들이 연결되어 완성되었다.
청평호수에서 바라본 건축물의 정면은 수직과 수평적 요소가 유기적으로 결합되어 dynamic한 장면을 연출하는 반면 도로 쪽에서 바라본 모습은 숲과 주변 산세와 어우러져 겉으로 드러나지 않는다.
가운데의 수평적 매스의 상부를 도로 레벨과 일치시켜 넓은 광장을 형성하고 대지의 양쪽 끝부분에 두 개의 타워를 세워 커다란 프레임을 만들어 주었다.
이로 인해 이용객은 자연스럽게 건축물로 흘러들어 청평호의 아름다운 풍경을 감상하게 된다.
광장의 중심에는 수면에서부터 부유하듯 상승하는 유기적이고 아름다운 계단을 만들어, 천천히 돌아내려가며 주변 경관을 바라볼 수 있게 하였으며, 이 계단을 통해 수면에 도착하였을 때 광장에서는 인식할 수 없었던 장엄한 스케일의 수평적 실내공간과 아름다운 형태의 선착장을 발견 할 수 있도록 하였다.
This river front structure consisting of a hotel and yacht club is located in the scenic area of CheongPyeong which is a very popular destination for water sports fans as well as tourists. With the completion of new Chuncheon Highway, This area can be reached from central Seoul in 40 minutes.
The building’s exterior mass is formed by a combination of horizontal lines representing the fluid movement of water with vertical lines representing the erect mass of the tower. The two lines joined by a gentle curve line creates a simple, elegant gesture inscribed on the landscape. When arriving to the hotel complex, one is greeted by a central entry court flanked by two hotel towers. A spiral stair at the center invites visitors to come down to the water level and the yacht club for drinks and entertainment. Since the club is hidden below the ground level, one is surprised by the large scale of the club and its decks reaching out to the river.
