이 빌딩은 불교 믿음의 원리를 숭배하고 연구하는데 전념하고 있다. 이것은 예배당, 명상실, 도서관,수도승 숙소, 강연실과 연회장으로 구성되어있다. 이 건물은 도심에 있는 현대식 건물의 형태에 불교에 관한 종교적,교육적 기능을 보유한 최초의 시도 중 하나이다. 한국에서, 대부분의 사찰이나 불교 관련 건물은 외곽에 위치한다. 이건물은 불교건축의 처마지붕과 외부 원형기둥과 같은 상징적인 전통요소를 따르지 않는 최초 건물이기 때문에 훨씬 주목할 만하다. 부드로운 곡률을 가진 단순한 기하학적 형태의 외관은 불교의 가르침에 있어서 고요함과 평화로움을 표현하고 있다. 건물의 외부를 감싸고 있는 수직루버는 건물 내부로 유입되는 빛의 양을 조절하는 기능을 하며, 황금색 루버는 끊임없는 변화와 최신의 기술이미지를 상징한다. 그러한 장치를 통해, 불교는 단순히 오래된 종교가 아닌 현실에 적용할 수 있는 현대적인 종교라는 메시지를 전달하였다. 내부 중앙의 엘리베이터와 복도에 있는 원형 계단은 효율적인 동선의 역할을 한다. 외부의 전망은 루버로 차단하여 예배자들이 내면으로 집중할 수 있도록 하였다. 예배당과 명상실을 위한 전체적인 형태는 불교에서 중심사상인 성상융회사상을 표현한다. 예배당 내부는 외부루버에 의해 조절되는 부드러운 황금 빛으로 가득 찰 것이다.
The building is dedicated to worshipping and researching the principles of Buddhist faith. It contains a prayer hall, meditation rooms, library, dormitory for monks, lecture hall and dining/banquet hall. The building is one of the first of its kind as it attempts to combine religious and education functions dedicated to Buddhism in one, modern complex in a dense, city context. in Korea, most temples or other Buddhist related buildings are located in the countryside far from city centers. It is all the more remarkable since it is the first Buddhist building that does not follow the traditional 'Buddhist' style which very often use symbolic elements such as over hanging roofs and round columns on the exterior. Instead, the smooth curvature and simple geometry of the building tries to evoke a sense of calm and peace inherent in the teaching of Buddhism. The building is covered by golden aluminum louvers which not only rotate to control amount of sun entering the building but offer an image of modernity and clarity. With such devices, the Buddhist Institute hopes to deliver the message that Buddhism is not just an 'old' religion but a modern one which is able to adapt to present living. Inside, the circular stairways with central elevators and hall was carefully placed to distribute traffic effectively at public levels. The view to the exterior is mostly blocked by louvers to reduce distraction. Thus worshipers may concentrate on their inner selves. The oval shape used for prayer halls and meditation rooms suggest an eternal circle of life, which is a central belief in Buddhism. Inside the prayer hall , worshipers will be washed in smooth golden light carefully controlled by exterior louvers.
